LOL - we purchased a plot in Rietkuil (15kms from Buffeljags towards Heidelberg) in 2008, and on which we are currently building a small house / orchard. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about with the mushy roads... And the powers that be have the nerve to charge us "Rates"!

Why not open a Present Time with barber shop in the Swellendmark Mall - RMan, my husband, would love it :) (I'm not going anywhere near his mop of hair, and I doubt he'll travel all the way back to CT for a haircut every three / four weeks... :) )

Farmer Pete - Are there any English medium schools in the Swellendam area? My grandson, who is 8-years-old and has just entered Grade 3 may possibly be moving to the area shortly. Unfortunately, he has no knowledge of Afrikaans, and, although he is very bright, would thus, I fear, be at an enormous disadvantage if he were to attend an Afrikaans medium school.

Many thanks

Dani
P.S. Please could I ask you to e-mail me if you have any good news :)

Ah, goodwill, so few people seem to appreciate the importance of it; recently I purchased a laptop and printer to the value of R5000 from one of our local computer stores. As I was concluding the deal I asked about a printer cable thinking that one would be included with the printer, needless to say it wasn't and I would have to cough up another R60 for a cable (my wry suggestion that I could use a piece of baling wire instead of the cable was not understood nor appreciated). Now wouldn't that have been the perfect opportunity for the cashier to pull out a brand new cable from a box and given it to me for nothing, as a discount? Now THAT would have been goodwill!

I love your website, your blog and the countryside you live in; so much so that my wife and I recently purchased a smallholding in the area (Rietkuil). We'll have to investigate your establishment on our next visit.

A rugby game is 80 minutes long, a very small amount of time compared to the golf that takes up the whole day, hence wasting an entire weekend vs 80 short minutes of a rugby game, thank God there are different strokes for different folks. One should just respect each others.

Thank you Farmer Pete, you share our sentiment on the wood issue!! We will have to bring our brood to come and visit your farm, maybe by doing this, we will be able to realize our dream of living on a farm.

Blessings
